I love to teach and and I’m offering instruction online, and hopefully in-person (in South Brooklyn) again soon, once social distancing rules relax.

My online teaching for beginners and amateurs focuses on whatever music the student enjoys. (It is a requirement that the student enjoy listening to music!) I’ll teach you to play (and/or) sing along with songs you know. This is at once a classic and critical component in the development of any musician, and also one of the few quarantine-proof musical activities I enjoy. I think you’ll enjoy it, too, if you have any interest in developing your musical knowledge & ears!

I teach piano & guitar to beginning and intermediate students. I teach beginning through advanced instrumental technique on saxophone, clarinet, and flute. And I’m happy to talk about more advanced concepts (theory, composition, songwriting, improvisation, and arranging) with anyone ready for, and interested in, that!

I’ve taught countless private lessons over the years; coached jazz, rock, and popular music ensembles; and designed my own curricula to teach ensemble improvisation, instrument building, and basic acoustics. I’ve taught music at Milton Academy, the Lycee Francais de New York in Manhattan, at various music camps in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and California; and at public schools in Brooklyn and around Boston.

I’ve performed all around the USA, Canada, and Europe. I’ve worked on lots of records. (see Credits)

I earned a bachelor’s from Harvard University and a master’s from the New England Conservatory.
